Host’s Title Dream on the Line

Borussia Dortmund host Bayer Leverkusen in the German top division on Saturday, and the context couldn’t be more different for each side. Dortmund are chasing a strong finish to what’s been a respectable season; Leverkusen, meanwhile, are in genuine trouble .

Match Analysis

Dortmund have done what they needed to do this season. They’re second, they won’t challenge Bayern, and they’ve accepted that reality. But something’s clicked in the last month. Four straight wins, including that performance at Stuttgart, have given them a genuine sense of purpose heading into the run-in. They’re not suddenly world-beaters, but they look like a team that knows what it’s doing.

Part of that is Niko Kovac finally getting the backing he needed. The club’s shown faith publicly, and the players have responded. When you’re winning and playing controlled football, everything feels easier.

Leverkusen are in a completely different place. They need this. The Wolfsburg result was encouraging. Bayer Levekusen won 6-3 in a mad game, showing that they can create chances, but it also exposed defensive vulnerabilities they can’t afford right now. You can’t concede that many and stay in a title race, even if you’re scoring freely at the other end.

The thing about Dortmund at home is they don’t panic. They’ll control large chunks of the game, move the ball around, and suffocate teams through possession. Leverkusen like to hit on the break, which works when you’ve got space. With a stretched game, it opens up the chance of certain mistakes creeping in. If Dortmund can keep the ball early, it could be a long night for Leverkusen’s defence.

Team News

Dortmund are missing Adeyemi through suspension. It was his fifth yellow, so it’s self-inflicted. Emre Can’s still out with his knee, and Nmecha won’t be available either. Brandt came on and looked sharp against Stuttgart, so he’s the obvious option to come in.

Leverkusen have Quansah as a major doubt, and they’re still without Arthur and Vazquez. Martin Terrier’s also sidelined, but Schick is pushing to get back and might be involved from the start, which would be a boost for them.

Odds and Tips

Dortmund look the more cohesive team right now and have the home advantage, but Leverkusen have enough attacking talent to trouble anyone on their day. Expect an open game once both teams settle, and with how loose Leverkusen’s been defensively, there should be chances created at both ends.

Tip: Both Teams to Score at 1.47.
