LIV vs BHA: Goals Galore in Cup Clash?

Heaven knows Arne Slot and his men could use a boost. As the saying goes, one swallow doesn’t make a summer. Despite the 1–0 win over Sunderland in their last PL outing, the reigning champions currently sit sixth in the table — a full 14 points behind leaders Arsenal. With the league title now looking more like a mirage, the Reds need something to salvage their season. Would a potential ninth FA Cup triumph be enough to satisfy a demanding fanbase?

Liverpool host Brighton on Saturday in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The south coast club cannot exactly be said to have left a strong mark on the world’s oldest club tournament. The Seagulls have reached the final only once — arguably twice if you count the replay that ended in a 0–4 defeat to Manchester United back in 1983. Still, this weekend’s clash looks likely to be closer than history might suggest. Both teams have attacking quality, which should point towards an entertaining contest at Anfield. Let’s take a closer look at the match.

Match analysis

Liverpool advanced convincingly past Barnsley in the previous round, while Brighton knocked out none other than Manchester United. Both teams have therefore shown they are treating the FA Cup seriously rather than using it as a rest opportunity or development stage for fringe players. Lifting the trophy clearly matters to both clubs.

Liverpool have traditionally been strong at Anfield, but Brighton are far from pushovers and are capable of troubling any opponent. The Seagulls play positive, attacking football and have proven a tricky opponent for several top sides. This tie looks more evenly balanced than the odds might indicate, even though statistics still lean towards a home win.

Team news

Liverpool have had some injury concerns recently, particularly in midfield, which could influence team selection. However, the squad has considerable depth, giving manager Arne Slot the option to rotate without necessarily weakening the side significantly.

Brighton also arrive with a few fitness doubts, but they have demonstrated tactical flexibility throughout the season. They are comfortable in possession and rarely sit deep, even against stronger opposition.

Probable line-ups

Liverpool:
Alisson – Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, Van Dijk, Robertson – Mac Allister, Gravenberch – Salah, Szoboszlai, Díaz – Núñez

Brighton:
Verbruggen – Lamptey, Dunk, Van Hecke, Estupiñán – Gross, Baleba – Mitoma, Pedro, Adingra – Welbeck

Odds assessment and tip

Liverpool appear to be the favourites, particularly at home, but Brighton have enough quality to make this uncomfortable. Cup ties between two PL sides often produce open, entertaining football.

Tip: Liverpool to win, but both teams to score.
A result around 2–1 (7.50) or 3–1 (10.00) seems realistic.
