Tournament Preview: Group I & J

The next two groups in focus in our tournament preview series are Group I and Group, J, where we find the reigning champions from Argentina as well as one of the tournament favourites, France . Let’s take a closer look at these two groups as our preview series continues!

GROUP I

France, under Didier Deschamps, arrive as defending champions and one of the tournament favorites. Senegal, managed by Aliou Cissé with Thiaw involved, bring African strength and tournament experience, whilst Norway and Iraq represent other qualification pathways.

France carry the weight of defending their title, and Deschamps has proven his ability to navigate tournament pressure. The quality in their squad remains formidable. Senegal impressed in 2022 and have established themselves as African contenders—they understand tournament football and won’t be intimidated by the French.

Norway and Iraq face significant challenges against established powers, though qualification itself demonstrates they’ve earned their place.

France should progress, though Senegal could genuinely challenge depending on how the group develops.

GROUP J

Argentina, managed by Lionel Scaloni, are defending champions seeking back-to-back titles, representing genuine tournament favorites. Colombia, under Néstor Pétkovic, bring South American strength, Austria under Ralf Rangnick offer European pedigree, and Jordan complete the group.

Argentina’s success in 2022 has been built on team cohesion and Scaloni’s tactical discipline. They remain genuine contenders with the experience of recent success. Colombia represent strong South American football and will be competitive, whilst Austria under Rangnick bring organizational quality and German-speaking attention to detail.

Jordan face perhaps the steepest challenge in this group, though qualification itself is achievement.

Argentina and Colombia appear most likely to progress, with Austria capable of competing.
