Tournament Preview: Group K & L
England and Portugal both have title ambitions this summer, while Colombia are amongst the teams hoping to cause a bit of an upset. Let’s take a closer look at the last two groups of this summer’s big football party!
GROUP K
Portugal, managed by Roberto Martínez, bring European experience and attacking quality. Colombia, under Néstor Pétkovic, represent South American strength. Uzbekistan and DR Congo complete the group from Asian and African confederations respectively.
Portugal’s squad contains considerable talent, and Martínez brings tournament experience to the role. They should be competitive against all opposition, though there are concerns that a certain player might be taking up a bit too much space in the squad. Uzbekistan have shown development as Asian football improves, whilst DR Congo return to the tournament after a long absence and will be fighting to establish themselves.
Portugal and Colombia appear most likely to advance from this group.

GROUP L
England, managed by Thomas Tuchel in his first tournament with the Three Lions, arrive with considerable expectations. Croatia, under Zlatko Dalić, bring recent tournament experience and European strength, Ghana return to the tournament hoping to advance to the later stages, and Panama complete the lineup.
Tuchel’s appointment was significant. He brings proven tournament experience and tactical intelligence. England’s squad contains considerable attacking talent, though consistency has sometimes been questioned. Croatia’s experience of recent tournaments, including reaching the 2018 final and 2020 semi-finals, means they understand what it takes. They’re never to be underestimated.
Ghana will certainly be harboring hopes of qualifying from the group stage and into the later stages, whilst Panama will compete without expectations of progression.
England and Croatia appear most likely to advance, with the group competitive depending on preparation and form heading into the tournament.
